The pride month was marked on June 28th 1969 when patrons of the stonewall inn where constantly abused and harassed by police officers in New York finally got tired and decided to fight back. It was the time Americans commemorate the 1969 stonewall uprising and events sparked the modern LGBTQ rights movement and highlighted LGBTQ rights as human rights. So the pride month of the LGBTQ month is recognized to remember the abuse and harassment gays, lesbians, and transgenders went through 50 years ago, trying to be who they want. The result of this fight for right also commemorated the stonewall riots and ended at the bottom of June 1969. Did these freedom fighters achieve their rights and freedom? Mm Yes. but this fight went on for more than 4 decades. So when did it become a law ? In 2015, it reached a milestone when the united states supreme court finally recognized the rights of same-sex couple to marry. From that time, the pride month has become more than a celebration to remember the stonewall riots. Not only in the united starters, pride month is now celebrated by millions of people in the whole world. During pride month, parties, parades, lectures, workshops and concerts are being organized to mark the freedom and constitutional rights for LGBTQ all over the world. Not that alone, it is also being held to honor the LGBTQ individuals who have been lost due to crimes motivated by bigotry and advocate for those in the over 70 countries who are still persecuted for who they are. Ghana is part of these 70 countries. In Ghana, LGBTQ people are being treated unfairly for who they are. Other people see them to be the most demonic people of all time. They are being embarrassed, and neglected by friends, families and society. To be a LGBTQ person in Africa and most developing countries is a very challenging course to deal with. So, pride month is not only celebrated in the United States. It can be celebrated by LGBTQ people all over the world. As these individuals pray and wait for the LGBTQ to be accepted in their country as it is in the United States and the United Kingdom. They see and wish if they were in these countries to express their real self and feelings.
